2 weeks agoWe checked out Holy Cow Japanese Steakhouse as a group of four and were promptly seated. The ambiance was decent - comfortable and relaxed, though nothing particularly standout. For drinks, I went with the Lady in Pink mocktail made with a pomegranate base. It was refreshing enough but didn’t leave much of an impression. The highlight of the meal was hands down the omurice. Perfectly filled, with a great balance of egg and beef fried rice, it was seasoned really well and stood out as the most satisfying dish of the night! We also ordered the wagyu beef which was served in sizzling hot platters. I liked the selection of sides which ranged from broccoli, carrots, corn and potatoes. The steak itself didn’t quite live up to expectations. The quality of the meat was good, but the seasoning left it feeling a bit plain and even dry at times. I would have liked more sauce either on top or on the side. For dessert, we opted for the mango pudding shaped like a corn cob, and presentation-wise it looked phenomenal. Taste-wise though, it was more subtle than memorable but not as exciting as its creative look suggested. Service throughout was excellent, the staff was attentive, quick, and friendly. Overall, Holy Cow delivered some beautiful presentation and great service, but flavor-wise, I left hoping for a little more depth.

a month agoFirst time trying location, great service and atmosphere. Ordered the tenderloin medium and it was very delicious. Food is halal which is great. Steak came with steak sauce which was sweet/salty flavor. Overall tasty. My cup of water never ran empty as servers kept topping my cup up.

4 months agoTried Holy Cow in Toronto and really enjoyed the experience. I had their beef steak, which was on promo, and it was amazing—juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. I also tried the karaage don, which came with golden fried chicken topped with a creamy, cheesy sauce—it was so satisfying! Their Japanese rice was cooked perfectly and paired well with the dish. The place was full and busy, but the service was still good. Staff were attentive and polite. Definitely worth checking out if you’re nearby and in the mood for a good meal.

a month agoI visited for dinner on Aug 5th, and was quite disappointed at the overall experience. The steak was too salty for my liking. I wish the soy sauce that gets poured on your dish at the table is self-service, so we can adjust the amount. My server poured way too much soy sauce, and the steak was soaked in what now looks like soup… The dish was too salty I had no other choice but to order the rice. The steak was also not cooked evenly. I ordered the medium rare; and some parts were overcooked while some other parts were completely raw. The price is also not cheap. For $40-50 per steak, I’d just recommend going to a classic steakhouse for an enhanced dining experience. After the meal, as we were walking out after paying, we noticed the 10% cash payment sign. I wish the server had informed us of this before we paid. This was a huge miss on the server’s end, not offering the discount that was available to us.

3 months agoGot a table pretty quick on a weekend for dinner. The layout’s a bit disjointed inside in my opinion - There seems to be the main kitchen at the front, and the bar and some food prep still happens at another service area in the back of the restaurant. The dining room is split into a kind of main area in the centre of the restaurant then a smaller section towards the back near the bar. When we came in, there were staff in the bar area using some kind of very loud machinery I think to cut pieces of meat with bones. The noise level was as if they were actively under construction inside the dining room. Really shouldn’t be doing that, or should relocate that machine behind closed doors at least, etc. The service is very inattentive and the waitress also forgot to make our drinks when she took our order. I had to flag her down to make them for us. The seating area towards the back is at a bit of a disadvantage for service because they don’t take the initiative to check on you and you’re out of their line of sight. I had the curry hamburger don, which was decent. The burger itself had a good crust on it which gave it a nice smoky flavour and crispier texture. The gravy and the patty had good flavour.
